Write Links celebrated 2019 at our December meeting. Brisbane writers and illustrators reflected on everything they achieved this year. We celebrated books launched, contracts signed and manuscripts submitted. Most importantly, we celebrated how we all showed up and had a go. We ALL travelled further along on our creative journeys than we were at the start of the year… with new friends made along the way. And that's something worth celebrating!
Our meeting began with a writing activation session run by Joanna Wisbey. Given the visual prompt of a fifty-cent coin, we were each assigned a year (from 1970 to the 1990s) and instructed to write about what happened to the coin that year, ending with 'and it was placed in the hand of…'. This led to an entertaining sequential read-aloud of one very well-travelled coin's adventures.
Yvonne Mes organised a wall display of our achievements and aims. We wrote our 2019 milestones and 2020 goals on colourful post-it notes and stuck them to the relevant posters, which Yvonne subsequently read aloud. What a treat to be reminded of our peers' successes in this way… and be inspired by their intentions for the year to come!
We heard from several new members, discussed various administrative issues and took a group photo of those who had brought along their books. We also perused a table filled with Write Links members' books, artwork and related products. It was a hit!
And yes… on top of all that excitement, we still found the time to divide up into our usual critique groups!
